"Llorar no cuesta" es un reflejo de la historia del pueblo de Cuba durante el comienzo del Periodo Especial, -año 1993- una etapa de crisis y escasez económica que aparejada con la corrupción administrativa y la falta de esperanza trajo consigo males como la prostitución, el jineterismo; hambre y enfermedades; además del abarrotamiento de las cárceles cubanas como consecuencia del incremento de la delincuencia.
La migración ilegal por mar en lo que fuera comenzó a gestarse ocultamente o a viva voz. Un año después en 1994 tendrá lugar la "Crisis de los balseros cubanos". La gente comenzó a salir de la Isla huyendo de una realidad cada vez más miserable caracterizada por días y noches de apagones y hambruna.
La historia transcurre en Cuba, en el pueblo de Candelaria aunque pudo desarrollarse en cualquier otro municipio cubano. Es una novela "agria escrita en tonos grises" al decir de su autora. Es un texto desgarrador que recrea una triste y compleja realidad histórica.

Lázara Ávila Fernández, (Pinar del Río, Cuba 1960) es filóloga, traductora y profesora. Mujer inquieta y apasionada por las letras, el mundo de la radio y los espectáculos artísticos. Hijos y nietos son su mayor orgullo. Disfruta mucho el cuento corto y la ciencia ficción. Ha publicado el poemario "Cinco poemas de amor" en 2015. Es fundadora de Pinar Publisher, sitio dedicado a la edición y publicación de obras literarias. Y editora de la revista digital Autores Indies.

Con sorpresa y admiración leí esta novela que narra los años mas duros del pueblo cubano. Sorpresa por el relato tan vivido de un tiempo que todos pretendemos borrar y del que poco o casi nada se narra. Me encontré con personajes de mi propio entorno en mi pueblito natal y creció en mi la admiración por la Señora Avila, por su prosa fácil y dinámica. Llorar no cuesta hasta que no terminas la lectura, entonces si te das cuenta que tienes algo muy valioso en tus manos y nace la admiración por alguien que de seguro no era extraña en esos avatares del tiempo narrado. Me gusta el secreto y la intriga que se devela a gotas y la increíble situación que se narra. Felicidades a la escritora y los invito a leer este libro magnifico que de a seguro repercutirá en la literatura de estos tiempos. Gracias Sra Avila por el esfuerzo y el regalo!
